Soft clicks echoed through the empty corridor, but they were swiftly drowned by the sound of a sweeping downpour. Isabella had known this storm was coming for days now. She didn’t mind a little bit of rain, and in fact, found it refreshing. But the truth was, under that tough exterior, larger storms frightened her a great deal. She didn’t even know why; intelligent as she was, she knew the odds of being struck by lightning were remote. So what was so terrifying?
A cold shiver ran up her spine, and she wrapped her bare arms around her frame. Clearly, a tank top and shorts had been a poor choice. Her fingers reached up and pulled the elastic from her hair in the hopes that the chestnut curls would at least warm her neck and face. She felt so cold.
Miss Akahi hadn’t seen her brother all day. The castle was so big, and not many students had arrived yet, so it was rather empty. Admittedly, it was a little eerie in times like this. So where was he? Maybe up in his tower, the one he had pretty much claimed for himself. He didn’t seem to care who went in there when it was unoccupied, but as long as he was up there, no one else was allowed to be, and that was that.
The twenty-five-year-old paused near the end of the corridor, feeling somewhat drawn to the glassy walls. It was like she was floating in the sky, with the hail pouring down, only to be deflected by a shield of sorts. It was like she was safe, but for how long?
Her fingers pressed lightly against the glass, and another shiver ran up her spine; it was so cold. She absently traced her initials; it was a childish act, though, surely something she wouldn’t have done if she had been conscious of the action.
This particular day left her with nothing to do. She felt too cold to swim, though the pool was heated, and there was no going outside. She hoped the Fleur Gardens were doing alright; she and Mikhail had put so much work into them, and it would be a shame if they were drowned. Oh, she hoped the storm let up soon!
